Identity & Self-Esteem Therapy
You Deserve to Feel Good About Who You Are.
Low self-esteem isn't just feeling bad about yourself sometimes. It's the inner critic that never goes quiet. It's shrinking yourself so others feel comfortable. It's achieving things and still not feeling like enough. It's moving through the world with a quiet but persistent sense that you are somehow fundamentally flawed.
That voice isn't telling you the truth. And you don't have to keep living by it.
We offer self-esteem and identity therapy via telehealth across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
What Is Low Self-Esteem — and Where Does It Come From?
Self-esteem is the relationship you have with yourself — how you see yourself, how you talk to yourself, and how much you believe you deserve good things in your life.
Low self-esteem rarely comes out of nowhere. It usually develops over time — shaped by early experiences, critical messages from caregivers or peers, trauma, cultural and societal pressures, or simply years of not having your needs, feelings, or worth affirmed.
Low self-esteem can look like:
• A harsh, relentless inner critic
• Chronic people-pleasing and difficulty saying no
• Feeling like a fraud — even when you're succeeding
• Comparing yourself constantly to others and always coming up short
• Difficulty accepting compliments or believing good things about yourself
• Shrinking yourself to avoid taking up too much space
• Staying in situations — relationships, jobs, friendships — that don't serve you because you don't believe you deserve better • Tying your entire sense of worth to your achievements, appearance, or how others see you
Self-esteem isn't about arrogance or thinking you're better than everyone else. It's about having a stable, compassionate relationship with yourself — one that doesn't collapse when things go wrong or someone disapproves of you.
Does this resonate with you…
You’re looking for a therapist who understands what it feels like when —
• Your brain replays conversations, decisions, and moments on a loop — long after they're over
• You are your own harshest critic — and the criticism never really stops
• You achieve things and still don't feel like enough
• You apologize constantly — even when you've done nothing wrong
• You find it hard to ask for what you need or set boundaries
• You feel like everyone around you has it more together than you do
• You feel like a fraud — like it's only a matter of time before people figure out you don't really know what you're doing
• You've built your sense of worth around being useful, productive, or needed — and you don't know who you are without that
• You're in the middle of a big identity shift and don't know who you are anymore
• You've never felt truly comfortable in your own skin
• You're exploring your identity — gender, sexuality, values, beliefs — and need a safe space to do that
-
Low self-esteem doesn't develop in a vacuum. We explore where your relationship with yourself began — the early messages, the experiences, the relationships that shaped how you see yourself. Understanding the root is often the most transformative part of the work.
-
One of the most powerful things we do in this work is help you develop genuine self-compassion — not as a performance or an affirmation, but as a real, lived practice. We use compassion-focused approaches to help you relate to yourself with the same kindness you'd offer a good friend.
-
We work with the core beliefs and thought patterns that keep low self-esteem in place — the "I'm not enough," "I'm a burden," "I don't deserve good things" — and help you examine and shift them with evidence and compassion.
-
Our sense of self is built in relationship, and it can be rebuilt in relationship too. The therapeutic relationship itself is part of how self-esteem heals. We offer a consistent, warm, genuine connection that models what it feels like to be valued exactly as you are.
-
For clients navigating questions of identity — gender, sexuality, values, culture, religion, or simply "who am I now?" — we offer a genuinely affirming, curious, and non-prescriptive space to explore. There's no agenda here. Just space to help you figure out who you are.

Self-esteem and identity therapy via telehealth is just as effective as in-person. Available across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
