EMDR Therapy
When Talking Isn't Enough
Some experiences are too big, too overwhelming, or too deeply stored to be processed through talking alone. EMDR therapy works differently — helping your brain do what it was always designed to do: heal.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy originally developed to treat trauma and PTSD. It uses bilateral stimulation — typically eye movements — to help the brain process and integrate traumatic or distressing memories that feel stuck.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR doesn't require you to talk extensively about what happened. Instead it helps your brain reprocess difficult experiences so they lose their emotional charge — and stop interfering with your present life.
Research shows that telehealth EMDR is just as effective and produces outcomes comparable to in-person sessions for trauma, PTSD, and anxiety — so you don't have to sacrifice quality of care to access it from the comfort of your own home.
You’ll benefit from EMDR if...
- You've experienced trauma — big or small — that still feels present
- You struggle with PTSD or trauma-related symptoms
- You have anxiety or panic that feels disproportionate to the situation
- You have a specific phobia or fear that holds you back
- You're haunted by memories you can't seem to shake
- You find yourself reacting to present situations as if you're back in the past
- You've tried talk therapy but feel like something is still stuck
- You're ready to process what happened and finally move forward
EMDR can help with:
Our Approach to EMDR Therapy
-
We understand that trauma lives in the body and mind. Our EMDR-informed approach creates a safe, supportive environment where healing happens at your pace — never rushed, never forced. Safety and trust come first, always.
-
Rather than just talking about what happened, EMDR helps your brain actually process and integrate difficult memories — so they lose their emotional charge and stop interfering with your present life. Many clients describe feeling lighter after EMDR sessions in a way they haven't experienced with other approaches.
-
We don't use EMDR in isolation. We weave it seamlessly with somatic therapy, attachment-based work, and mindfulness to create a comprehensive, personalized healing experience tailored uniquely to you.
-
Research confirms that EMDR is equally effective via telehealth as it is in person. Our therapists are specifically trained in adapting EMDR techniques for online sessions — so you receive the same quality of care from the comfort of your own home, wherever you are in New York.
What Does an EMDR Session Actually Look Like?
EMDR therapy is typically structured in phases. Here's what you can expect:
History & Preparation
Your therapist will get to know your history and what you'd like to work on. Before any processing begins we'll make sure you have the grounding and coping tools you need to feel safe throughout the work.
Processing
Using bilateral stimulation — adapted for telehealth — your therapist will guide you through reprocessing targeted memories or experiences. This might feel unfamiliar at first, but most clients find it less overwhelming than they expected.
Integration
After processing sessions your therapist will help you integrate what came up and return to a grounded, settled state before the session ends. You're never left feeling unfinished.
We never rush the process.
