Autism & Neurodivergent Therapy
You Deserve a Therapist Who Actually Gets It.
Therapy for autistic people has too often focused on changing them — making them appear more neurotypical, masking more effectively, or fitting into a world that wasn't designed with them in mind. We don’t agree with that, and that's not what we do here.
At Peace of Mind Therapy we approach autism with genuine curiosity, deep respect, and a fundamental belief that neurodivergent minds are not broken — they're different. And different is not less. In fact, they’re special.
We offer affirming, neurodiversity-informed therapy for autistic clients and individuals on the spectrum via telehealth across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Our Philosophy — Affirming, Not Fixing
We are a neurodiversity-affirming practice. This means we start from the belief that autism is a natural variation in human neurology — not a disorder to be cured or a set of deficits to be corrected.
Our goal is never to make you appear more neurotypical.
Our goal is to help you:
• Understand yourself more deeply
• Build a life that works for how your brain actually functions
• Develop strategies for navigating a world that wasn't built for you
• Process the impact of masking, burnout, and being misunderstood
• Build relationships and communication on your own terms
• Advocate for yourself with confidence and clarity
We work with autistic children, adolescents, and adults — as well as parents and families navigating autism together.
Does this resonate with you…
You’re looking for a therapist who understands what it feels like when —
• You've always felt different — like everyone else got a manual for how to be human that you never received
• Social interactions feel exhausting — you have to consciously think through things that seem to come naturally to others
• You've spent years masking — performing a version of yourself that fits in — and you're burnt out
• Sensory experiences feel more intense than they seem to for other people
• You have deep, passionate interests that bring you enormous joy
• Change, unpredictability, or transitions feel genuinely distressing
• You've been called "too sensitive," "too intense," or "too much"
• You were recently diagnosed — or you suspect you might be autistic and are trying to understand yourself
• You've experienced significant anxiety, depression, or burnout as a result of navigating a neurotypical world
• You want a therapist who won't try to change who you are
-
We never use approaches that aim to reduce autistic traits or increase neurotypical-appearing behaviors. We celebrate your neurology and work with it — not against it.
-
For many autistic people — especially those diagnosed later in life — understanding their autism is a profound identity journey. We hold space for that exploration with curiosity, warmth, and genuine respect for who you are.
-
Autistic burnout is real — and it's one of the most common reasons autistic people seek therapy. The exhaustion of masking, navigating sensory overwhelm, and constantly translating yourself for a neurotypical world takes a real toll. We help you understand burnout, recover from it, and build a more sustainable life.
-
We work collaboratively with you to identify what's actually getting in the way of your life and develop practical strategies that fit how your brain works — not generic advice designed for neurotypical brains.
-
Autism frequently co-occurs with anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, trauma, and eating disorders. We're experienced in working with the whole picture — not just one diagnosis in isolation.
-
We work with parents and families navigating autism — helping you understand your child's experience, improve communication, and build a home environment where everyone can thrive.
-
Autism therapy via telehealth is just as effective as in-person. For many clients on the spectrum, attending from a comfortable, familiar, low-sensory environment is actually preferable. Available across all of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
